So the weather finally seems to be taking a turn for the better and its time to get out and survey those routes. Set off this morning for a short loop route starting at the stunning Bowhill House on the Buccleuch estate.
Buccleuch estates ltd are kindly supporting the project and with so many lovely miles of riding in their estates, it is a match made in heaven.
So starting at the house car park I headed off up the forest track uphill to take on the Duchesses Drive route, probably one of the more well known of the Buccleuch country rides and I am told quite scenic – Not today!
It was good running weather though and a great trail, hard-packed forest trail leading up the Grouse moors then open hill and moor leading back to the forest before rejoining the quiet estate road and past the eerie (in the mist) Newark castle and back top Bowhill.
There are recent hoofprints up there so there are riders out there and the ground has held well given the weather.
The trail is very clearly marked but if you want to take a map (recommended) then you can download it for free on the Scottish Borders Council core paths, there is also a version on the BHS Ridemaps
